October 21 marked the 5th anniversary of Closed Captioning on FOXTEL. Ai-Media and the FOXTEL CC crew celebrated this great milestone together with a luncheon to reflect on the wonder years. Since its inception on the digital service in 2004, over 390,000 hours of programming content has been broadcast which is a remarkable achievement by all involved. At launch, there were 20 channels enabled for CC and by the end of 2009 there will be over 50.
FOXTEL’s closed captioning manager, John Icaca, said, “The progress and growth in volume has been extraordinary and is testament to the commitment of Broadcast Operations, Engineering and Corporate. He made special mention of Ai-Media’s integral support of FOXTEL’S technical developments and their generous help with successful community events.” For us at Ai-Media, working with the great team at FOXTEL is a real pleasure.
Co-founders of Ai-Media, Alex Jones and Tony Abrahams started out consulting to FOXTEL on the best way to implement captions on the network. They were told, “If you know so much about captioning, why don’t you do it?” The rest, as they say, is history.
