Major progress has been achieved for the disability sector, throughout 2011.
Thanks to the Every Australian Counts campaign, and its 100,000 strong community of supporters – outside and inside parliament – of all political persuasions, we are immeasurably closer to realising an NDIS than we were in 2010. Polls show over 80% of Australians support the reform, and all major news outlets have editorialised for action.
While more remains to be done in 2012 – including funding appearing in the forward estimates – the Government and Opposition, and those around the COAG table, should be congratulated for a bipartisan commitment to implement the NDIS according to the timeline proposed by the Productivity Commission.
