Ai-Media's CEO, Tony Abrahams, features in Savvy - Understanding the Entrepreneur, a publication produced by the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Savvy - Understanding the Entrepreneur features many UNSW business alumni who are at the forefront of innovation. Featured alumni ranged from Paul Cave, creator of BridgeClimb to Nudie founder, Tim Pethic.
Tony's contribution to the book is about Ai-Media and how it came to be.
In 2007, the first phase of the Ai-Live trial started at Blackwattle Bay, Sydney, with three deaf students receiving live text to their laptops. With a team set up in the storeroom of the school, the audio came through on a radio microphone attached to the teacher. “So as the teacher spoke, my colleague re-spoke well enough for the voice recognition software to understand it and this came out on the computer screen for the students to read it. It worked, but best of all the kids liked it. There were interpreters in the room as well, and we realised that the kids were watching the captions and not the interpreters.”
