Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) and Ai-Media

What is DSA?

Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) are grants that help pay for extra support that students may need as a direct result of disability.

If you live in the UK and have a disability that affects your study, you may be eligible for a DSA.

Funding is provided by the funding body relevant to your nation of residence, for example Student Finance England (SFE) or Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).

How Ai-Media can help

Live Captions

Ai-Media’s live captioning and note-taking service, Ai-Live, is approved under the Disabled Student’s Allowance (DSA) Band 3 (Specialist Note Taking), providing access and inclusion for students who are Deaf, hard-of-hearing or who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia or an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Captioning can be provided in our Caption Viewer.

Transcripts

Following captioning delivery in your live lecture, the student can access the transcript of the lecture from their Ai-Live user account. You can also order transcripts as a stand-alone service for recorded media.

Transcripts of lecture content are a valuable tool for student comprehension and revision.

They also provide tailored support for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and various psychosocial disabilities.

Closed Captions for Recorded Media

Support your students by adding closed captions to your pre-recorded lectures.

Ai-Media’s integrations with leading lecture platforms – including Mediasite, Echo360, Kaltura, Panopto and more – make it easy. Choose from our human-generated or computer-generated closed captions.

Note-Taking

Note-taking provides an accurate summary of what is said, so that class content is easily absorbed by everyone.

Notes are easily accessible for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, have low vision, and those with learning disabilities or who are using their second language. They can be detailed or simplified depending on the user’s requirements.

Our note-taking service is delivered remotely using highly skilled notetakers. All we need is access to your live audio, and we deliver back your notes as soon as your class or meeting is finished.
